Pangandaran is one of West Java's best kept secrets, lying on the south coast of West Java at 91 km/56.5 mi away from the town of Ciamis. It gives in the Indian Ocean and lies halfway between Bandung and Yogyakarta. Characterized by unique black and white sand, calmed waved beaches and spectacular sunsets, it is also a renowned surfing destination.
Batu Karas is a coastal area, located at one hour from Pangandaran town in West Java with calm waters and challenging waves. It is a well kept secret for surfers and beach lovers but has not failed to be popular to surfers both locally and internationally. Batu Karas promises a great surfing adventure with so many types of waves and it is less crowded than the beaches in Bali.
This uniquely black sandy beach offers right handed point-break regional classic waves and works well with off-shore winds from the south-southwest. Swell size starts working from 1 m/3 ft up to 5 m/16 ft with a rising tide movement best at low and mid tide. On a normal day, the wave lengths would be between 150-300 m/492-984 ft. Best season for surfing here will be between the rainy season of November to April.
