The city is also known as the Apple Capital of the world, due to the valley’s apple cultivation. Rock Island Creek trail is 2 mi/3.2 km long, out and back, about one and a half hour hike, with minimal elevation gain. It is an easy but great hike trail with panoramic views over a beautiful deserted canyon. There is a lot of exploring to do around, without having to follow a certain trail. The best time to hike this trail is from May through October.
You will come across fantastic wildflowers in the open slopes, mule deers, pheasants and many more wild animals and birds. As you hike up the trail, take a look at the canyon below you and admire the rock carvings. Rock Island Creek is a great hike, suitable for all skill levels, in a desert looking scenery, different from the alpine nature of the Cascades.
