El Unico is a popular beach break that is located near San Juan, the capital city. The spot offers world class wave quality, when it breaks. The swell sizes usually start from less than 1 m/3 ft and hold up to 2.5 m/8 ft. In addition, the best tide position is low and mid tide and the ideal tide movement is rising tide. The wind blows from the south, southeast and the best swell direction is from the north, northwest.
The surf site provides both left and right hand waves and is suitable for experienced surfers. Keep in mind that it is usually crowded with locals, bodyboarders and other surfers. There are many surf schools and shops available in the area, where you can book lessons or rent gear.
It is advisable to park your car in a visible place, as theft incidents have occurred. Apart from surfing, do not miss the opportunity to visit one of the many sites of interest in San Juan, especially the Catedral de San Juan, which is the second oldest cathedral in the Western Hemisphere. Note: be careful of rips, pollution and localism.
