Lake Baikal is a rift lake situated in the south of the region of Siberia, between the Republic of Buryatiya to the southeast and the Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest.

On one of the shores of the world’s deepest and longest lake, the Siberian Lake Baikal and only a few minutes away from the Trans-Siberian railway lies an amazing ski resort, the Baikalsk – Sobolinaya Ski Resort. Situated on the Sable Mountain, it is a heady cocktail of sun, snow, fresh air and high speed. Alpine skiing there is legendary!

The mountain’s important features are its openness, accessibility and tolerance. Everyone is welcome here and there is a slope made for every level of experience. The choice is entirely yours. You can either ski slowly and admire the beautiful scenery, the majestic mountains and the glittering ice fields of Lake Baikal or you can race on the steep slopes, kicking up clouds of snow dust.

You can visit for a weekend, a week or a month. The cost is extremely attractive, especially during low season. The Baikalsk ski resort is a network of certified lifts and slopes, qualified instructors and ski patrol, rentals, sports shop, parking and a ski network of bars and restaurants.

Today, the bandwidth of the ski resort exceeds 3500 people per day. The 12 certified runs are longer than 15 km/9.5 mi and served by 8 lifts, including a chairlift. The depth of the snow is 2 m/5 ft and it is pretty challenging to all alpine skiers.

While being at the resort, be prepared for extreme temperatures, as the average day temperature in winter is -10 to -15 °C/14 – 5 °F and in the velvet season (April – May) -3 °C/26.6 °F. With 180 days duration of the season, it is certain that you will find the time that suits you, in order to ski in this amazing area.
