Sugar Bowl ski resort is a ski area in northern Placer County, near Norden, along Donner Pass of Sierra Nevada, at about 46 miles/74 km from Reno on Interstate 80, California, USA. The resort was opened on the 15th of December 1939.

Near Sugar Bowl ski resort, there is the largest private trail system in Northern America, at Royal Gorge off I-80, in the west of Donner Summit at the Soda Springs exit. In this trail system, you should live the experience of cross country skiing.

There are about 9000 ac/36.42 km² of terrain with more than 186 mi/300 km trails, including a skating line in the tracks. In some trails, they make snow and use modern snow-cats. In order to help skiers with the tougher inclines, Royal Gorge has 4 surface lifts.

In this area, there is rental equipment, a full time ski patrol, ski school and ten warming huts. When you ski, you can see the breathtaking vistas of the powdered snow, covering rocks and trees and wildflowers. Feel the breeze on your face and smell the refreshing scent of pine trees.

If you want to lodge on the trail-side, there are Rainbow Lodge, a historic 1920’s B&B and Wilderness Lodge, a rustic retreat, which is in the middle of the trail system.
