Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region as well as the Hérault department in southern France. Located on the south coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the third-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille and Nice. Montpellier is located at 170 km/106 mi from Marseille, 242 km/150 mi from Toulouse and at a distance of 748 km/465 mi from the capital of France, Paris.
If you are an extreme sport enthusiast, you will love this beach. La Guillotine is a beach near Montpellier, in a city called Le Grau d’adge. It is very easy to find, just follow the river until you get to the sea. The beach is also named after the city so you might hear calling it like ”le grau d’adge” beach. It is suitable only for very experienced pro or kamikazi surfers.
The wave is wild, fast and powerful, something that is missing in the Mediterranean along with the sandy breaks. Even when it is windy, preferably from the north, northwest and northeast (onshore), it tubes and the lip is really fat. You won’t find many surfers in weekdays, about 10 but they are very passionate and some of them are regulars’ local residents.
In weekends, the spot gets ultra crowded though. The wave is regional classic that sometimes breaks and is coming from the right. Normal days and good days are the same as the wave in its length is short, about 50 m /164 ft long. The swell in its best form comes from southeast and east and its size ranges between 1 m / 3 ft to 2+ m / 6+ ft.
All tides are welcomed in this beach with their best movement of rising and falling. It is a very popular among surfers beach, just remember that you should be an expert and watch out for localism.
