Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites and a plethora of excellent dive spots all along this section. Portsea Pier is a popular dive site amongst diving schools, night divers and macro photographers. The average depth here is at 5 m/16.4 ft and the maximum is at 8 m/26.2 ft. Visibility is medium and varies from 5 m/16.4 ft to 10 m/32.8 ft.
Water temperature is up to 19°C/66.2°F in summer and early autumn months and between 15°C/59°F in winter. Divers are able to witness an amazing marine life including weedy sea dragons, banjo sharks and puffer fish to name just a few. It is an excellent spot for beginners and advanced divers alike. Finally, apart from scuba diving, you can also explore the peninsula which is famous for the variety of beaches, the wineries and the mazes. Note: watch out for boat traffic and fishing lines.
North Head is the northern headland of the entrance to Sydney Harbor. All along this section, there are several excellent dive sites.
