Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites all along this section. Point Leo is a small city that boasts for more than seven surf breaks in its foreshore.
Point Leo or Suicide Point is a reef break with reliable conditions for surfing. Here you can explore the waves with swell sizes from 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2.5 m/8 ft. The best tide movement is rising tide and the ideal tide position is mid tide. Offshore winds blow from the northwest, west and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest, south. The spot as its name implies is suitable for experienced surfers only.
In summer, the wind blows offshore at 24%, in autumn the wind blows at 45%, in winter at 58% and in spring at 39%. Point Leo is usually crowded during weekends. Keep in mind that, the best periods for waves is autumn and winter, as during summer the swell is often smaller. Note: watch out for sharks, localism and rocks.
