Rio de Janeiro, commonly known as Rio, is the capital city of the Rio de Janeiro State, the second largest city of Brazil and the third largest metropolitan area in South America. Since July 2012, part of the city has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in the category of ''cultural landscape''.

Rio de Janeiro is characterized by its beaches of magnificent beauty. Copacabana and Ipanema are among the most well-known beaches, but surfing lovers would definitely appreciate Arpoador more than any other beach in Rio. It is located between Copacabana Fort and Ipanema beach and it’s no more than 500 m/1640 ft long.

The best season to surf in Arpoador is during winter time, but you will face no problems surfing at any other season, since it constitutes a beach of consistent reliability. The most preferable wind direction is north and northeast, but you’ d better choose a southeast swell direction- it is more probable that you’ ll come across with groundswells rather than wind-swells.
