Gordons Bay or Thompsons Bay is located in between Coogee beach to the north and Clovelly pool to the south. The spot is popular with scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiast. The spot is appropriate for all levels of snorkelers as it is protected by an offshore reef, known as the Bommie.
The average depth of the site is 12 m/39.4 ft and the maximum depth is 15 m/49.2 ft. Visibility rate is good and it can be dived all year long. Water temperature is up to 21°C / 69.8°F in summer and early autumn months and between 14-18°C / 57.2-64.4°F in winter. Access to the water is via a path, swim out a few meters, find an underwater chain and follow it to the wall.
Snorkelers will have the opportunity to witness an amazing marine life. Expect to see blue grouper, old wife, grouper, red morwong, senator wrasse, leatherjacket, spotted goatfish, crimson banded wrasse, common bullseye, silver sweep, Maori wrasse, mado and garfish. Last but not least, Gordons Bay also provides an excellent night dive.
