The spot is located in the municiplaity of Almada, in Portugal, along the western coast of Setubal. The Tagus river crosses this beautiful village. It’s a tourist destination, although it used to be in the old days a fishing place. A walk in the village between the acacia and eucalyptus trees is a must. Costa da Caparica beach is the largest contiguous beach of approximately 30 km/18 mi long in Portugal. It is really beautiful and sandy. On the cliff above the beach, you can find an old Capuchin Monastery founded in 1558.
The Costa da Caparica beach offers the right conditions for windsurf. So, take your board and respond to the wave’s call. The swell size starts working at less than 1 m / 3 ft and holds up to 2.5 m+ / 8 ft+. The northwest, west, southwest and south are the good directions for swell. And for the wind, southeast, east and northeast direction is the best. The waves are regional classic with very consistent frequency (150 days/years) and a beach-break.
Follow the right and left direction of the fast, powerful and really fun waves. In spring, the wind blows offsh0re 21% and the waves swell size is from 1.3 to 3 m (4-10 ft). In autumn, the waves swell size is from 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) to 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft) and the wind blows offshore 25%. In winter, we have waves with swell size from 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft), but sometimes the waves are >3 m (10 ft) and the wind blows offshore 36%. In summer, the waves swell size is 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) and the wind blows offshore 4%.
There are surf schools with experts at your disposal, in case you need. In Costa da Caparica, there is a variety of accommodation and other leisure activities to do, when you can escape from the triangle of adrenaline and pleasure.
