The town has many interesting historical sites and is famous for its Kona Coffee cultivation and the crystal clear sea. Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes away in the south of the main town. Along the sea side, there are shops and schools to buy or rent diving gear as well as take lessons if you are a beginner.
Lava Dome spot is ideal for beginners. It is one of the unique coral reefs in Kona, made of volcanic rock covered with corals that are hundreds of years old. The average depth is 9 m/30 ft and the maximum 27.4 m/90 ft with low sea current and good visibility.
The biodiversity of the bottom is outstanding with colored tropical fish, sea turtles, eels and blue dragon fish. If you are lucky enough, you might come across reef sharks cruising by. Lava Dome spot is accessible only by boat from the Honokohau Marina where you can charter a boat.
South Head is the southern headland of the entrance to Sydney Harbor, at the north of the suburb of Watsons Bay. Hornby Lighthouse, the third oldest lighthouse in New South Wales, is located in South Head.
