The north side of the beach attracts surfers of all levels. The south side of the beach, also known as Little Avalon, has totally different surf characteristics. To begin with, it is an exposed reef break that has dependable surf at all stages of the tide. Surfers can explore the waves with swell sizes from 3 ft (1 m) to 10 ft (3 m). The best tide movement is low and mid tide.
Ideal wind direction is from the southwest and best swell direction is from the northeast. In summer the wind blows offshore at 11%, in autumn the wind blows at 14%, in winter at 10% and in spring at 9%. This spot can produce good waves all year long and it is suitable for more experienced surfers. The average water temperature is about 21ºC/69.8ºF. Watch out for rips, rocks, urchins and sharks.
