Billy Clapp Lake is a man-made lake, fed by waters coming down from Banks Lake. The trail is 5mi/8km long, out and back, about four hours hike, with minimal elevation. Although Billy Clapp is not a natural lake, there are a lot of wildlife animals and plants, attracted by the wealth of water.
From the moment you begin hiking this trail, there are amazing views of the colourful lichen covered rocks of the canyon. After this section, you reach a bay on the lake shore, with many side paths, some of them leading into smaller sandy beaches.
The best season for this hike is all year round. However, if you visit during summer, you can swim of fish on the lake. Billy Clapp Lake is an amazing and interesting hike for nature enthusiasts of all skill levels, offering beautiful views of the canyon and the area around.
