Ginkgo Petrified Forest is one of the largest in the world. It was created during lava flows that swept the Northeast area. The rock forest includes petrified ginkgos, which is one of the oldest tree species of the world, as well as walnuts, elms and more.
The trail is 3mi/4,8km long, (loop hike), about two hours hike, with minimal elevation gain. The trail takes you through the desert looking basin, with an amazing diversity of petrifies trees. It is an easy hike that gives the hiker the opportunity to admire the region’s spring time wildflowers and wildanimals, along with amazing views of the wide desert landscape.
You can hike this trail, all year round, but the best time to hike is during spring. Ginkgo Petrified Forest Interpretive Trails is an interesting and rewarding hike for nature enthusiasts, suitable for all skill levels.
