Lake Wakatipu is the longest lake in New Zealand (80 km/49 mi length) and the second largest in South Island situated at an altitude of 310 m/1017 ft. Its depth ranges from 380 to 420 m/1246 to 1377 ft, and is therefore approximately 100 m/328 ft below sea level.
