Given that Palisades State Park features an extraordinary terrain and breathtaking views, there is no better place to exercise rock climbing! Quality pink quartzite climbing, little traffic and a unique valley are all you need to enjoy your activity. Split Rock Creek, flowing through the park, is lined with quartzite formations varying from shelves several feet above the water to 50 ft /15.24 m vertical cliffs.
There are virtually no anchors or bolting in the park, making it a traditional climbing location. Climbing difficulty ranges from easy class 4 scrambling to 5.12 overhanging and roofs. Located just a few minutes far from the city, locals of Sioux Falls and Garretson tend to spend many hours strolling around the park.
The park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. / May 1 through Sept. 30 and from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. / Oct. 1 through April 31. Last but not least, in order to have access to Palisades State Park, an entrance fee is required year-round.
