The Green Kalahari is located at the Northern Cape, bordering Namibia and Botswana. It is characterized by red dunes, mountain desert and grasslands. At the foot of the Helderberg Mountain, there is a 12 km/7 mi circular route which offers an amazing 4×4 adventure.
The route is an easy one with some tricky and technical detours. Graded between 3-4, it lasts between 1-2 hours with a terrain consisting of mud, gravel, sand and clay with steep ascents and water crossings. Although it is not a trail that will send shivers through your body, it still has some tricky obstacles and magnificent scenic beauty to admire as you explore the tranquil mountain area.
The route is all year round destination however during wet seasons some of the challenging options are closed and therefore not accessible. The trail is ear-marked with color codes and offers different grading variations. During winter the surfaces get extremely tricky due to the wet slippery surfaces.
How to Get to Destination
Cape Town’s main train station is located in the city centre, on the corner of Adderley Street and Strand Street. All trains to or from Cape Town arrive and depart from here.
