Peniche is a seaside township in Portugal. It has a large harbor and it is well known as a fishing town. One of the diamonds of Peniche is the baroque Misericordia Church in the main square, where you can admire the fantastic painted ceiling with scenes from the new testament. If you want to see an old prison, then you should visit the impressive 16th century fortress. It had been used as a prison by the secret police of dictator Salazar, where political opponents were jailed.

If you like a strong cocktail of adrenaline, then you should try kite-boarding.Ā It is a famous extreme sport that combines gymnastics, windsurfing, surfing, wake-boarding and paragliding. To join this sport you need good and powerful waves and a long sandy beach. Peniche’s beach is the medicine to your adrenaline addiction.

Peniche has beautiful long windy beaches and can provide the right conditions for kite-boarding. Supertubos is a popular wave in the area and well known as the “European pipeline”, because it’s a really strong and fast one.

The breaks are staringĀ in 3 distinctly different directions making it the best destination for kite-surfing fans. In summer, the waves are with swell size between 4-6.5 ft (1.3-2 m) most of the time and the wind blows onshore at 85%. In autumn, winter and spring the waves are with swell size between 6.5-10 ft (2-3 m) and the wind blows onshore at 63%, 58% and 73% respectively.
