It is located at 44 km/27 mi from Queenstown (a breathtaking, scenic drive) and consists the gateway to Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks. Glenorchy and the surrounding area was the setting for the legendary films Lord of the Rings and X-Men Origins.
Mount Earnslaw, also known as Pikirakatahi, is in the entrance of Mount Aspiring National Park, and is located at 25 km/15 mi on the northern side of Glenorchy. It is 2819 m/9248 ft high and consists a great destination for mountaineering lovers staying in Otago region.
At 1000 m/3280 ft you will meet Earnslaw Hut, where you can rest, warm up next to the fireplace and have something to eat. Experience the ultimate adventure and feel the thrill of climbing and exploring the magnificent Mt Earnslaw dedicating your mind and body 100%. Bear in mind that it is a demanding expedition, and that excellent physical state is required. There is a number of different routes you can choose from, most of them with some technical difficulties.
