The cave of Cavallone lies at 20 km/26 mi from Pescocostanzo, in the area of the National park of Majella. It is a complex of cavers and cavities located at 1300 m/4265 ft a.s.l. The geological character of the cave is Karstic and extends for 1000 m/3280 ft. The depth of the cave remains unknown due to the difficulties which present further excavations.
The cave is open to the public only in summer months. The temperature inside the cave remain invariable around 10°C/50°F and the humidity is quite high 80-90%. Mind the chilly temperature then and be prepared! The tour stands for 2 hours approximately. Trail facilities operate during the day till afternoon and needs 20 min for the journey.
