This surfer’s paradise has countless beaches, where you can enjoy your favorite water sports. One of them is Matadouro beach. This public beach is situated in the city, providing instant access to surfers. It is not so easy to find though.
The beach offers normal wave quality and waves that break regularly, making it suitable for experienced surfers only. The wave type is reef rocky with excellent right and left direction and waves are characterized powerful and ledgey. The bottom of the sea is sandy with rocks.
The best swell direction comes from the northwest, west and southwest and the swell starts working at 1 – 1.5 m/3 – 5 ft. Mid tide is the best tide for the spot and rising and falling tides are the best tide movements. Surfers that want to enjoy these waves should be careful of urchins and rocks.
If you don’t know how to handle your surf board, there are local schools with fully qualified personnel that will help you, providing the necessary knowledge. Matadouro is a cool place and totally worth a visit!!
