The beach of Vilamoura is long and sandy and really clean. Because of the weather and the good climate, Vilamoura has the right conditions for kiteboarding. The east and southwest winds and the flat chop waves give you the opportunity to feel the adrenaline, while you are seduced by the mystery of the Atlantic ocean.
In summer there are waves with swell size from 1.5 to 4 ft (0.5- 1.3 m) and the wind blows offshore at 4%. The temperature in summer is around at 28°C/82.40°F. In autumn the waves swell size is from 1.5-4 ft (0.5-1.3 m) to 6.5-10 ft (2-3 m), and the wind blows offshore at 6%. In winter the wave swell size is at 6.5-10 ft (2-3 m), but sometimes there are waves with swell size more than 10 ft (>3 m). The wind blows offshore at 5% and the temperature is around 15°C/59°F. During spring the wave swell size is at 1.5-4 ft (0.5-1.3 m) and the wind blows offshore at 8%.
The 2012 Kiteboarding Course Racing Iberian Championship took place in Vilamoura beach and organized by the CIMAV (Club International de Marina de Vilamoura).
