Magic Point is the southern headland of Maroubra Bay and it is home to the endangered grey nurse shark. It is a lifetime experience and it is totally harmless. The dive site has two caves.
The colony of grey nurse sharks, can cruise around the mouth of the larger cave which is at about 16 m/52.5 ft below the surface. Alternatively, divers can move southeast along the wall to the smaller cave where the placid sharks are also found. The spot is appropriate for all levels of divers.
The average depth of the site is at 20 m/65.6 ft and the maximum depth is at 25 m/82 ft. Visibility rate is good and it can be dived all year long. Water temperature is up to 21°C/69.8°F in summer and early autumn months and between 14-18°C/57.2-64.4°F in winter.
It is a popular spot, especially during the summer months, so be patient. Last but not least, apart from the sharks, divers may come across with weedy sea dragons, giant cuttlefish and Port Jackson to name just a few.
