The town hosts many interesting historical sites and is famous for its Kona coffee cultivation and the crystal clear sea. Kona International Airport is located at fifteen minutes away in the south of the main town. Kealakekua Bay is perfect for beginners. It has an average depth of 15 m/50 ft and maximum depth 30.5 m/100 ft with no current and excellent visibility. The biodiversity of the bottom is interesting with a lot of colored tropical fish, eels, sea turtles, big rocks and corals.
The Bay’s best diving spot is in Ka’awaloa Cove, near the Captain Cooc Monument, where the depth ranges from 1.5 m/5 ft up to 36 m/120 ft. Divers should be careful not to break any corals.
