The North Male atoll boasts the most popular surf breaks in Maldives. Pasta Point is referred to as the wave-machine of North Male atoll.
This reef break is certainly one of the best surf spots in Maldives. Its name derived from an Italian resort that once was located here. Nowadays, the Chaaya Dhonveli Resort provides exclusive access to the break with a limited number of surfers at a time. Pasta Point offers world class waves with left hand direction. The optimum period to visit the site is between May and August. The swell size starts working at 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 4 m/12 ft. In addition, the best tide position is all tides and the ideal tide movement is rising tides. Offshore winds blow from the north and northwest and the best swell direction is from the south.
Note that the break has two famous sections, the first one is known as Macaroni bowl and the second as Lockjaws and works only on big swells. At summer the wind blows offshore 29%, at autumn it blows 36%, at winter 27% and at spring 51%. Past Point is suitable for experienced surfers only. Finally, there are specialized companies that organize boat trips in the area, providing the opportunity to surf in more than one spots on the same day!!
