Sans Souci is a small village that is located on the north coast of Trinidad, next to Grande Riviere village, which is home to one of the most important Leatherback turtle nesting beaches in the world. Sans Souci is also a turtle nesting location. But that is not all, as the site is well-known for the surfing that takes place in its waters.
The swell size starts working at 1-1.5 m/3-5 ft and holds up to 3 m/10 ft. The ideal wind direction is from the south, while the best swell direction is from the north and northeast. This beach-break provides very consistent surf and offers both left and right hand waves. In addition, the best tide position is low and mid tide and the ideal tide movement is rising and falling tides. At summer the wind blows onshore 72%, at autumn it blows 67%, at winter 83% and at spring 62%.
Sans Souci welcomes surfers of all abilities and experience levels. Last but not least, if you visit the area, do not miss the chance to see the large Grande Riviere river, which enters the sea at the eastern end of Grande Riviere beach. Note: be careful of rips and rocks.
