The climate here is classified as tropical, with an average temperature of 69.8 °F/21 °C in winter and 80.6 °F/27 °C in summer.

Guardalavaca is a coastal town, located in the Holguin Province of Cuba. It is a popular tourist destination, due to its unspoilt landscape of exceptional beauty and pristine beaches with white sand and warm, turquoise waters. Playa Esmeralda is a long sandy beach with crystal, clear waters.

The spot is situated close to Guardalavaca and about an hour’s drive from Holguin airport. Playa Esmeralda is an excellent dive site that enchants divers and snorkelers at almost any time of the year. Sea lovers are able to see interesting coral reefs and an abundance of soft and hard corals in a short distance from the shore. There is also a vast number of reef and pelagic fish and many tropical Caribbean species of all sizes and shapes.

Visibility is generally good and ranges from 10 m/32.8 ft to 30 m/98.4 ft. The average water temperature is around 27 °C/80.6 °F in summer and around 24 °C/75.2 °F in winter. Last but not least, the dive site is appropriate for snorkelers of all skill levels, due to the shallow waters.
