Mossel Bay is a beautiful coast, located in between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, at 400 km/248 mi of distance both ways. It is surrounded by the sunbathed peninsula and the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean. It offers a mild climate all year round, making it a perfect winter break destination.The weather is influenced by the Aghulas current of the Indian Ocean and by the presence of the Outeniqua mountains.

On the foot of Robinson Pass, at 35 km/21 mi from Mossel Bay, there is an amazing mountain biking trail. The trail, known as Eight Bells is a circular route covering a distance of 47 km/29 mi. Biking here allows you to explore the forest and fynbos of the Outeniquas.

Terrain here is mostly gravel road and difficulty level is intermediate. Biking here is an all year round activity although the winter rains can make it a bit tricky and one needs to be careful.

The mountain biking expedition ranges from 2-3 hours. The trail-head is at the Eight Bells Mountain Inn. Hazards to watch for include irrigation guts and flooding rivers.
