Kiteboarding / Kitesurfing in Hartenbos Beach, Mossel Bay, Western Cape South Africa

Mossel Bay is a beautiful coast, located in between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, at 400 km/248 mi of distance both ways. It is surrounded by the sunbathed peninsula and the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean. It offers a mild climate all year round, making it a perfect winter break destination.The weather is influenced by the Aghulas current of the Indian Ocean and by the presence of the Outeniqua mountains.

Hartenbos Beach is a large wide open beach, providing with the ideal conditions for kite-surfing. The spot is slight onshore with southeast winds and cross-shore with southwest direction, however kiting is best with the southeast winds.

Waves close out but the swells are generally small. Swells start from 1-2 m/3-6 ft with regional classic wave quality. Kite-surfing at this spot is open to all level of kite-surfers and is a year round activity. Wind strength stands at 15-25 knots.

Head southeast toward York St and go through the roundabout onto Main Rd then take the right to merge with N2 and take exit 387 toward Mossel Bay and take the Marsh St. ramp onto Mossel Bay.
