Ericeira is a small village on the western coast of Portugal. It's a civil parish in the municipality of Mafra. The eternal connection with the Atlantic ocean gives this place a veil of freshness. The unique monuments, the characteristic housing and the buildings of great architecture will definitely seduce your senses once you set your foot on the spot. It's a tourist destination, especially in summer.

The spot offers a sweet warm climate, while the sunshine serves as a host of this village. It’s well known for its fresh fish, the clean waters of the beaches and the nightlife. If you don’t drink too much cocktails in the beautiful bars at night, wake up and walk through the narrow cobbled streets. You can visit the Sta. Casa da Misericórdia da Ericeira Museum where you can take a dose of ancient art and history. The cultural center (Casa de Cultura Jaime Lobo E Silva) or the municipal library (Biblioteca Municipal da Ericeira) are standing majestically and waiting for you.

Ericeira has many beaches for all tastes. One of them is Coxos beach. It’s at about 6 km/3 mi in the north of the village. This beach is appropriate for those who try to find a wet way to rouse their wild instincts and take a big dose of adrenaline. For those who are looking for an adventure by riding their body-board on the curl of the waves. Coxos beach has the right conditions for experienced body-boarders. The hollow, fast and powerful waves with right movies are ready for you. The swell size starts working at 1.5 m-2 m /5 ft-6 ft and holds up to 5 m / 16 ft and over. The southeast, east and northeast direction is the best for the wind and for the swell, the northwest, west and southwest direction.

In summer, the waves swell size is 1.3-2 m (4-6.5 ft) and 23% of the time the swell size is from 2 to 3 m (6.5-10 ft), and the wind blows offshore 7%. In spring, the waves swell size is 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft) most of the time and the wind blows offshore 18%. In winter, the wind blows offshore 28% and the waves swell size is 2-3 m (6.5-10 ft) most of the time and >3 m (10 ft) 22% of the time. In autumn, the wind blows offshore 25% and we have waves with swell size from 1.3 to 3 m (4-10 ft).

There are body board schools, in case you need an expert at your disposal. The beach is considered as dangerous for bathers, because of the the strong currents at the south side. So, it’s better to watch out only for the crazy body-boarders and the keenly moves of their bodies. In Ericeira, you can find lovely accommodations and other activities that you can do, on your spare time.
