The town is surrounded by the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Crown Range, Haast Pass, Roys Peak and Pisa Range and is close to Mount Aspiring National Park (World Heritage Area). The most common route is through the northwest ridge (the southwest ridge is for the more experienced climbers). At 5905 ft/1800 m, you will meet Colin Todd Hut where you can rest, warm up next to the fireplace and have something to eat.
