Peniche is a municipality and a seaside city, situated in formerly Estremadura Province, in Oeste Subregion. The municipality consists of 6 parishes and it is a popular surfing destination.

Santa Cruz city is a very popular destination in the Peniche area of Portugal. The reason is its beach, the Santa Cruz beach, which is a surfer’s paradise. The beach is in the city within a walking distance of 5-15 minutes and it is easy to find.

It is a public accessed beach, so you won’t have to deal with fee issues. Praia da Fisica as you might also hear it named, offers regional classic wave quality to all levels of surfers. The waves break a lot and the wave type is beach-break.

The waves are powerful with excellent both right and left direction. On normal days the wave length is short up to 50 m/164 ft, while on good days it can reach up to 150 m/492 ft.

The bottom of the sea is sandy, providing a beautiful view under your tows. When the conditions are right, the wind blows from the west and the swell comes from the east, making this place awesome!

The swell starts working at less than 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2+ m/6+ ft. Although, it is a well known surfing spot, it weekly hosts only few surfers, while at weekends it is crowded. Dangers among others include localism.

Santa Cruz is amazing for a nice surfing session, so if you are around, don’t miss it!!!
