The South trail of Douglas Creek Canyon is 5 mi/8 km long, out and back, an about three hours hike, with minimal elevation gain. The hike follows the creek upstream and takes you through a rich in wildlife valley. Despite the desert like terrain, hiking along the creek is like being in an oasis.
At some point, you have to cross over the creek and there is no bridge, but well spaced, huge rocks that help you cross over without getting wet. The best time to hike this trail is all year round but extra caution is needed, when heavy rain showers occur. Douglas Creek Canyon Trail is a great hike suitable for all skill levels, in a desert looking scenery, different from the alpine nature of the Cascades.
