Kinsale is a picturesque town that nestles at the mouth of the River Bandon, just 25 km/15.5 mi south of Cork city. It is considered to be the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, with a number of restaurants, pubs and cafes that caters to every taste and budget. The Old Head of Kinsale is located at a short distance from Kinsale and it is a great place to visit, if you have a passion for paragliding.
The launch area is beside the road, on the west side of the peninsula. The take off altitude is at 81 m/265.7 ft above sea level and the take off point is found at 51°37’13” (51.6204)N; 8°32’42” (8.5451)W. Admire the stunning views of the surrounding area, while you are flying through the air. The landing altitude is at 87 m/285.4 ft above sea level and the landing point is found at 51°37’15” (51.6211)N; 8°32’38” (8.5439)W. The optimum wind direction is from the west, southwest and the ideal time to visit the spot is during spring and summer months.
It is advisable to avoid landing on the Golf Course, as it is a private property. Keep in mind that it is a very windy location, so be cautious. Finally, Old Head of Kinsale is appropriate for more experienced pilots.

The site is inside controlled airspace. While you can have permission to fly, you still need clearance before you fly.
Pilots who do wish to fly there MUST (at all times) contact Cork Airport Traffic Control BEFORE launching & AFTER landing.  (021)5004300.
Ask for “Clearance to fly paragliders with a maximum altitude of 500feet above sea level on the WEST SIDE of the Old Head”. Unless there is a rescue or emergency or fog (at the airport) clearance is always granted. You will need to contact them again after you pack up.
