Rock Climbing in Chinamans Bluff, Queenstown, Otago New Zealand
The town is surrounded by Lake Wakatipu and the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Ben Lomond. Queenstown and the surrounding area was the setting for the legendary films Lord of the Rings and X-Men Origins. Despite the mountainous landscape, the climate is considered to be oceanic, with warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 30°C/86°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
Chinamans Bluff (1 hour drive from Queenstown) is the perfect destination for rock climbing lovers. It is more than 980 ft/300 m high and offers a variety of multi-pitch routes, including the legendary 10-pitch Ravages of Time.
There are some newly-developed one-pitch routes as well (starting grade: 17). The rock is schist with many natural lines and climbs. Experience the ultimate adventure and feel the thrill of climbing using metal rungs, learn how to handle the ropes and dedicate your mind and body 100%.
