Mountain Biking in Sticky Forest, Wanaka, Otago New Zealand
The town is surrounded by the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Crown Range, Haast Pass, Roys Peak and Pisa Range and is close to Mount Aspiring National Park (World Heritage Area). Despite the mountainous scenery, the climate is considered to be continental, with fairly warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 25°C/77°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
One of the best free ride/downhill mountain bike sites in Wanaka is Sticky Forest (5 min from the center of the town). There are 20 trails and tracks you can choose, from the more demanding switchbacks of Yumpts and Stumpy to the uphill Crankin’ Fine’s track or the legendary Venus and Sweet Carrot Cake. It is perfect for riders of all levels and consists one of the most popular destinations for the freestyle mountain bikers in New Zealand.
