The town is surrounded by the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Crown Range, Haast Pass, Roys Peak and Pisa Range and is close to Mount Aspiring National Park (World Heritage Area). Despite the mountainous scenery, the climate is considered to be continental, with fairly warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 25°C/77°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
One of the best and most challenging ways to explore Wanaka and the surrounding area is trekking. Immerse yourself in the trekking adventure, feel the thrill of your personal effort and cover miles and miles discovering the rare and wild beauty of the surrounding mountains, lakes and forests!
Visit Mt Aspiring National Park, cross Matukituki and Wilkin valleys, admire the waterfalls and enjoy the awe-inspiring landscape. Don’t forget to bring the camera with you!
