Hell's Gate is located in the South of Lake Naivasha and at about 90 km/55 mi in the northwest of Nairobi City. It covers an area of 68 km²/26.25 mi² and is at 1900 m/6233 ft above sea level. Some of the highlights are the Fischer's tower, Central tower and Hell's Gate gorge. Although there is a wide variety of wildlife, it is famous for a variety of bird species including vultures, verreaux's eagles, swifts and augur buzzards.

Back-country is perfect for backpacking. Mammoth Lakes back-country is magnificent and primitive at the same time, so you will be on your own. Weather may be unpredictable and even severe in all seasons, so if you plan to backpack, make sure to be informed about the weather conditions and what clothes you should take with you.
For overnight camping, wilderness permits are required. If you want to bring your pet with you, make sure to go to the areas permitted. For your own safety you shouldn’t forget that Sierra is bear country! It is mandatory to use bear-resistant food canisters.
