- HOW TO GO
Skiing in Snow Park NZ, Queenstown, Otago New Zealand
The town is surrounded by Lake Wakatipu and the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Ben Lomond. Queenstown and the surrounding area was the setting for the legendary films Lord of the Rings and X-Men Origins. Despite the mountainous landscape, the climate is considered to be oceanic, with warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 30°C/86°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
One of the biggest ski resorts near Queenstown is Snow Park NZ at 55 km/34 mi towards Northeast. The site is open from mid June to early October and offers a great variety of facilities. Snow Park is not the traditional ski resort however. It is considered as a freestyle terrain with a great number of rails, jumps, box runs and half-pipes, and consists one of the most popular destinations for the freestyle skier. Perfect for runners of all levels, even for first-time skiers (learner’s area).
Enjoy the breathtaking alpine view! Night skiing permitted every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm.
