Isabela is a coastal city that is situated on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico. It is also known as the “Garden of the Northwest”, due to the unique combination of beautiful beaches, submarine rivers, caves, a rainforest and interesting archaeological sites. Shacks is a small, sandy beach, located west of Jobos surf break.
The swell sizes usually start from 1 m/3 ft and hold up to 2.5 m/8 ft. The best wind direction is from the east and the ideal period for kitesurfing is from October to July. It is advisable to choose in advance the launching and landing areas, as there are exposed rocky sections. In addition, the average water temperature is 28°C / 82.4°F. Shacks is appropriate for experienced kiters.
In summer, the wind blows offshore at 9%, in autumn it blows at 21%, in winter at 12% and in spring at 23%. Last but not least, it is also an excellent location for snorkeling and scuba diving during summer months. Note: be careful when entering the sea, as there are a lot of sea urchins.
