Rowena is a world famous kite-board destination in Oregon. It is located at the Columbia River Gorge, a place that has dozens of things to offer to its visitors.

Rowena has 5 ac/20234 m² of shore to expose and is a private area, so there is a fee at the parking lot. This is not a beginners spot, it attracts mostly intermediate athletes and experts and best months to visit are May to September.

Best wind direction is west, northwest and waves are moderate. You find the launching area at the east side of the park. You should be cautious of slippery rocks and mind the windsurfers, who are regulars at the spot too.

If you move east at the bay from the side of Oregon, you will find a more suitable place for beginners. It is close to the city of Hood River and The Dalles, where you can find plenty of accommodation.

How to Get to Destination

BY CAR FROM Hood River
14.1 miles (22.69 km), 18 minutes
Head northeast on Park St towards Montello Ave and continue on 9th St. Turn right on Oak St and left on 2nd St. Turn right to enter I-84 E towards The Dalles and take exit 76 onto Rowena to turn left on Rowena River Rd. Then turn right on Rowena River Rd.
BY CAR FROM The Dalles
8.6 miles (13.84 km), 18 minutes
Head east on E 10th St towards G St and turn left on G St. Then turn right on E 9th St and left on Brewery Grade. Turn right to remain on it. At the circular node take the first exit on E 2nd St. Turn left on Brewery Overpass Rd and again left to enter I-84 W towards Portland. Your destination is on your right.
