Mudjimba is a beautiful suburb of the Sunshine Coast, that took its name after a local plant, the Midyam bush. Mudjimba Island or Old Woman Island is located at about 1 km/3.28 mi off the coast and it is considered to be the best surf break in the Sunshine Coast.
On the north side of Old Woman’s Island, there is an exposed point break, offering consistent surf conditions. Offshore winds blow from the southwest and the ideal swell direction is from the east. The swell sizes can start from 1 m-1.5 m/3 ft-5 ft and holds up to 3 m/10 ft. The average water temperature is around 28°C/82.4°F in summer and around 20°C/68°F in winter.
In addition, the best tide movement is rising tide and the ideal tide position is mid and high tide.The optimum period for waves is winter. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 8%, in autumn the wind blows at 23%, in winter at 33% and in spring at 11%. The surf site is suitable for more experienced surfers, due to the long and heavy wave. Last but not least, to reach the spot, it is advisable to rent a boat, as the area here is , indeed, very sharky. Note: be careful of sharks, rips and rocks.
