Ginkgo Petrified Forest is one of the largest in the world. It was created during lava flows that swept the Northeast area. The rock forest includes petrified ginkgos, which is one of the oldest tree species of the world, as well as walnuts, elms and more. The trail is 1.5 mi/2.4 km long, (loop hike), about one hour hike, with an elevation gain of 330 ft/100 m.
It is an easy to follow wide trail that leads you through a desert looking terrain, with one of the largest collections of ancient petrified blocks of wood. You can hike this trail, all year round, but the best time to hike is during spring. Ginkgo Petrified Forest Trail, is an interesting and rewarding hike for nature enthusiasts, suitable for all skill levels.
