Peru or the Republic of Peru is the third largest country in South America, located on the west side of the continent and straddling part of the Andes mountain range. The country is well-known for the ancient city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. It is a remarkable archaeological location and also an UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts visitors from all over the world.

With superb natural beauty, impressive mountain range and rainforest, Peru has plenty of adrenaline sports on offer, including climbing and hiking in the mountains. The Cordillera Blanka or The White Mountain Range is situated in Ancash Region, approximately eight hours drive from the capital city, Lima.

It is part of the Peruvian Andes and also the highest tropical mountain range in the world. The region is blessed with a vast number of stunning lakes, beautiful valleys, rivers, waterfalls and many archaeological sites.

Apart from the fantastic scenery, it has around 33 mountain peaks over 5500 m/18040 ft high and among them is the Huascaran, the highest mountain in Peru. In addition, the location hosts many trekking circuits, including the famous route of Llanganuco-Santa Cruz. There are countless routes to choose from, according to your skills and wishes. So, there is no doubt that Cordillera Blanka is an earthly paradise for trekkers and climbers. Last but not least, Huaraz is a city in Ancash Region, situated at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range and it is the starting point of your trekking adventure.

How to Get to Destination

BY CAR FROM Lima
395 km/245.6 mi, 5 hrs 24 mins
Head north to Galeano Y Mendoza to Gullermo Dansey. Turn right into Argentina. At the roundabout, take the 4th exit. Slight right onto Avenida Alfonso Ugarte. Continue straight to Puente del Ejercito. Slight right onto the ramp to Panamericana Norte. Slight right to merge the Panamericana Norte. Keep left to stay on Panamericana Norte. Go through one roundabout. Take exit. Keep left at the fork. Proceed straight. Turn right at Serpentín Pasamayo. Turn left into the Panamericana Norte. Go through two roundabouts. Slight left to Panamericana Norte. Continue straight Panamericana Norte. Turn right onto Carretera a Huaraz. Proceed to Route 16. Turn right to stay on Route 16. Continue to Carretera a Huaraz. Make a 180 degree turn. Sharp right onto Route 3N. Slight left. Take the 3rd right turn to Route 3N. Turn left onto Route 3N. Continue to Confraternidad Internacional Oeste. Turn left at Pedro C Villon. Turn right.
