Puerto Rico is situated in the northeastern Caribbean and consists of an archipelago that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller islands. The climate here is classified as tropical marine climate, with an average temperature of 82.4°F/ 28°C, throughout the year. Although it is a small island, the smallest island of the Greater Antilles, Puerto Rico provides superb natural surroundings, countless adventure experiences and many places of historical interest.

Aguadilla is a lovely city, located on the northwestern side of Puerto Rico. Its name derives from the name given by the Indians and means garden. Aquadilla is well known to visitors for its amazing beaches. Wilderness is an exposed beach and reef break, that is located close to Gas Chambers surf spot.

It offers reliable surf and mostly attracts experienced surfers. The swell sizes start from 1-1.5 m/3-5 ft and hold up to 4 m/12 ft. In addition, the optimum wind direction is from the east and the ideal swell direction is from the north. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 22%, in autumn it blows at 57%, in winter at 65% and in spring at 66%. Furthermore, the best tide movement is rising tide and the ideal tide position is all tides.

Note that there are many surf schools and shops in a short distance drive from the spot. Finally, Wilderness gets very crowded from January to April, as it is the best period for waves. Note: be careful of rocks, sea urchins and rips.
