Surfing in Dairy Beach, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal South Africa
Durban is no doubt a surfer’s paradise!! Dairy Beach’s consistent wind directions, waves, and regular swells make it just perfect for a surfing adventure!!
Dairy Beach which forms part of the Golden Mile also hosts the world-renowned Mr Price Pro surfing championship. Surfing is open to both the novice and expert and is an all year activity due to the conducive weather, although the best months are considered to be May-June.
This spot offers world class wave quality with swells working at less than 1 m/3 ft holding up to 3 m/10 ft. South swells wrap around the piers and groynes which make up the coastline. When the tide is right, there are powerful, hollow beach-breaks. Best surfing time is within low to medium tides with light offshore winds. Things to consider are a few reefs including world class tube of cave rock.
