- ABOUT THE SPOT
Surfing in Costa da Caparica, Lisbon, Lisbon and Coast Portugal
Costa da Caparica is a coastal extent of about 30 km/18 mi of beaches, leaving you a wide range of choice. It is about 20 minutes away from Lisbon and you need a car or public transport to get there. Either way, it is in the city of Costa da Caparica.
With regional classic wave and very consistent frequency of about 150 days/year, Costa da Caparica is a big attraction to all Portuguese surfers. The wave is beach-break and has great right and lefts. The wave length is short less than 50 m/164 ft. Waves are fast, powerful and fun, disturbing the sandy bottom and creating the ideal surfing conditions.
The best conditions for this place are when the wind blows from the southeast, east or northeast and the swell comes from northwest, west, southwest or south. The swell starts working at less than 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2.5+ m/8 ft. The place works at all tides and the best tide movements are rising and falling tides.
Dangers include rocks and localism. On week days, you meet few surfers riding the waves, but at weekends, the place is crowded. If you respect all surfers and keep the beach clean, everyone will be happy and you will have a very good surfing session!!
