Merida is located on the northwestern side of Yucatan Mexican state, in the northern Yucatan Peninsula of the eastern Mexico. It is also the capital of the state and the largest town in the municipality of Merida.

Progreso lies in the municipality of Progreso, in Yucatan Mexican state. It is situated on the northern side of Merida, about 30 minutes far from the capital, by car. Progreso is one of the newest ports on the Gulf of Mexico. It is also a popular kiteboarding spot, feasible whatever level you are. There are many schools standing on the beach, where you can arrange a kiteboarding lessons package. If you want to enter the world of kiteboarding and become an independent rider, Progreso is the right place to visit. It is a safe beach, where you can learn to kiteboard.

As for the more technical features, first of all the wind is coming from the North, Northeast, East, Southeast and Southwest. However, the best wind direction is coming from the East. The winds at Progreso are almost always reliable, so you can kiteboard all year round. They are pretty strong and their intention fluctuates from 16 knots/30 kph to 25 knots/46.3 kph. Long distance and bump and jump are the main styles you may practice. Progreso has a tropical climate. Because of the weather conditions, the best season is from April to July. The temperatures are pretty high during all year. The average water temperature is 26°C/78.8°F.
