Arnhem is located in the eastern part of Netherlands, on both shores of the river Nederrijn as well as Sint Jansbeek that was the source of the development of the city. It is one of the largest cities in Netherlands and the capital of the Gelderland province. Arnhem has a main railway station – Arnhem railway station, which is serviced by several intercity lines and the ICE to Düsseldorf and further on to Frankfurt. Nowadays, there are also NS Hispeed trains to other destinations abroad, with some coaches going as far as Moscow.

The intercity lines provide with direct connections to Utrecht, Nijmegen, and Zutphen. It is also the terminus for several local railway services. Arnhem has three other stations, namely Arnhem Velperpoort, Arnhem Presikhaaf, and Arnhem Zuid.
